Greenhouse gas emissions from Mexican inland waters: first estimation and uncertainty using an upscaling approach

چکیده
The traditional upscaling approach to greenhouse gas (GHG) emission estimates of inland waters is imprecise, but more precise methods based on environmental drivers are a longstanding challenge. Mexico lacks GHG for its waters, and only sparse scientifically validated information available. This study provides the first from Mexican using 4275 flux measurements 26 distinctive waterbodies one local another global surface area dataset (INEGI HydroLAKES). factors were calculated subsequently upscaled estimate total national emissions compare other measures mean or size-productivity weighted (SPW) models. Mean (standard error) annual fluxes all 2.2 (5.3) kg CO2 m−2 yr−1, 0.6 (1.14) CH4 1.0 × 10−3 (6.0 10−4) N2O yr−1. Estimates natural average release rates between 74 (87) 139 (163.23) Tg CO2eq while artificial reach 32 (2) 21 (21) according INEGI HydroLAKES datasets, respectively. Considerable uncertainty was determined in factor, mostly anthropogenic emissions. Waterbody chlorophyll concentration used as proxies model through regression analysis. According SPW IPCC models, computed close our exhibited strong influence eutrophication. In likely scenario increased eutrophication Mexico, an increase net could be expected.

Greenhouse gas emissions from Indian rice fields: calibration and upscaling using the DNDC model
The Denitrification and Decomposition (DNDC) model was evaluated for its ability to simulate methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from Indian rice fields with various management practices. The model was calibrated and validated for field experiments in New Delhi, India. The observed yield, N uptake and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions were in good agreement with t...
متن کاملMethane and carbon dioxide emissions from inland waters in India - implications for large scale greenhouse gas balances.
Inland waters were recently recognized to be important sources of methane (CH4 ) and carbon dioxide (CO2 ) to the atmosphere, and including inland water emissions in large scale greenhouse gas (GHG) budgets may potentially offset the estimated carbon sink in many areas. However, the lack of GHG flux measurements and well-defined inland water areas for extrapolation, make the magnitude of the po...
متن کاملCommunicating the uncertainty in estimated greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture
In an effort to mitigate anthropogenic effects on the global climate system, industrialised countries are required to quantify and report, for various economic sectors, the annual emissions of greenhouse gases from their several sources and the absorption of the same in different sinks. These estimates are uncertain, and this uncertainty must be communicated effectively, if government bodies, r...
متن کاملGreenhouse gas emissions from rice
Rice provides the staple food for over 60% of the world’s population. Globally 80% of rice is grown by small farmers in low income and developing nations, and in India rice farming is a key source of employment for the 60% of Indian workers still dependent on agriculture for work. Yet rice production is also an important source of greenhouse gas emissions, for example responsible for between 3 ...
